The pharmaceutical industry in Algeria is undergoing significant development, with the inauguration on October 29, 2024, of the Central Laboratory of the National Agency of Pharmaceutical Products, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Liberation Revolution. The Director General of the National Agency of Pharmaceutical Products, Dr. Chérif DELIH, welcomed a ministerial delegation comprising Mr. Ali Aoun, Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry and Production, Mr. Mohamed Talhi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Algeria, Mr. Abdullah Dardari, Deputy Secretary General and Director of the Regional Office for Arab Countries of the United Nations Development Programme, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and central directors of the pharmaceutical sector.
In his speech, Dr. Chérif DELIH, Director General of the National Agency of Pharmaceutical Products, emphasized that this laboratory represents much more than just an infrastructure. It symbolizes the commitment of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to promoting pharmaceutical production and achieving healthcare objectives. It will enable us to meet tomorrow’s challenges and consolidate our position as a benchmark in the field of pharmaceutical regulation. The Agency’s Director General presented a film illustrating the Agency’s missions and recent achievements, including the opening of two regional annexes in Oran and Constantine, and the inauguration of the central laboratory. These projects testify to the agency’s determination to strengthen its role in the pharmaceutical sector and protect public health in Algeria.
The central laboratory aims to:
Improve the quality of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and vaccines through analytical methods that guarantee the quality, efficacy and safety of products bought to market.
Expand the range of analyses to be carried out with state-of-the-art equipment for more precise control and greater efficiency.
Shorter turnaround times for analyses, which will significantly improve performance and save time, so that products can be brought to market more quickly.
This project reflects the strong political will to invest in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry. The creation of this laboratory is part of the national strategy to strengthen the national pharmaceutical industry, reduce dependence on imports and, consequently, improve the quality of drugs available on the national market.
The Minister expressed his sincere thanks for the efforts made by the Director General of the National Agency of Pharmaceutical Products and the entire staff, and congratulated them on their outstanding work in making this project a success.
